I am Diana Evans, your school counselor.   I am in my 4th year as school counselor at E. E. Smith Middle School.  I look forward to working with your child during the 2011-2012 school year.

Recognizing that all students pass through specific developmental stages as they mature, my role as school counselor is to help students in understanding themselves and others, developing decision-making and problem-solving skills, and in developing school success skills.  I will accomplish this through individual counseling, as well as, group counseling.

How is a student referred to me?
A student may be referred to the counselor by parents, teachers, administrators, or peers, or they may self-refer.

What can you as a parent do to help your child succeed in school?

  • Provide an appropriate study environment at home.
  • Establish fair and reasonable expectations.
  • Take time to listen to your child.
  • Maintain communication with teachers, counselors, and other school personnel.
  • Participate in school activities.
  • Help your child establish realistic career and educational goals.
  • Celebrate your child's successes and recognize that mistakes or failures can be turned into positive experiences.
