 North Duplin Attendance Policy 2008

The Duplin County Schools' Board of Education policy #JBD-R addresses all issues relating to school absences at all school levels with Duplin County Schools.  The basic policy can be viewed on the DCS website or a copy will be provided to you at your request.

Regular school attendance is one of the most notable of the contributing factors to school success.  A student is allowed to miss five days ONLY per semester in high school and six per semester in middle school with the appropriate documentation.  Any absences exceeding the above stated limit-excused or unexcused-must be appealed before the Attendance Committee.  In order for the committee to consider waiving the excessive absences, they must be provided legal documentation from a doctor's office or court, or appropriate documentation which reflects a death in the immediate family (described as a parent, sibling, or grandparent).

Connect Ed will be used to inform parents or guardians of each absence.  This automated phone system willl call the number previously provided by the parent or guardian.

On the third absence a letter will be sent home alerting the student and parents/guardians of excessive absences.

The proper authorities will be notified in extreme cases of truancy.
