North Carolina Teacher Cadet Program

The North Carolina Teacher Cadet Program was founded by the North Carolina Association of Educators and is funded by the North Carolina Foundation for Public School Children. The honors course is designed to create interest in students who may consider teaching as a profession. The students use the Experience Education curriculum. Units of study include The Learner, The School, The Teacher and Training, History and Government, and Professional Growth. In addition to the classroom component, students complete a field experience with a master teacher in an elementary school, middle school, or high school.

Duplin County Schools implemented the North Carolina Teacher Cadet Program during  the 2007-2008 school year. Additional components of the Teacher Cadet Program will be incorporated based on student interest and enrollment.
