Week1: Why we study history
Week 2: Early People
8th Grade Social Studies
1st 9 weeks – The students will explore the geography of NC, causes and effects of the Revolutionary War and the creation of the US Constitution.
2nd 9 weeks – The students will focus on Life in the Antebellum Period and the Civil War.
3rd 9 weeks – The students will explore Reunion and Growth of the U.S., as well as Increasing Involvement in World Affairs.
4th 9 weeks – The students will cover the U.S. as a World Power.
Missed Work/Late Work
It is the student’s responsibility to obtain the homework assignments, notes & any other information that is missed during an absence. Missed work due to an absence (up to five school days) and full credit will be allowed for each day of an excused absence. After five school days, credit will be reduced be 10 points. After 5 days, late work will not be accepted.
Preparation for Class
Students are required to bring a pencil/pen, paper, colored pencils, completed homework, binder, and a book to read, to each class unless otherwise directed. They will not be allowed to return to their locker. Assignments left in locker will be counted as missing/late.
BI-Weekly Homework in CANVAS (online discussion board)
ALL BLOCKS HAVE AN ARTICLE SUMMARY DUE EVERY OTHER FRIDAY. Articles can come from a newspaper or a newsworthy website (CNN, WRAL, News12News, etc.) Read the article, write a paragraph summary and attach the article OR write the name of the article and website where it was found. The article must be about a newsworthy issue in North Carolina, the US or the world. Weather and sports articles are not permitted. The first week will be completed in class.
