My name is Miriam Summerlin, and I am so excited about this year! Please subscribe to my homepage for updates and important information about what we're doing in class. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me at the e-mail address above, or call the school at 910-285-3476.
My husband and I live with our family in Beulaville. We love the beach, riding bikes together, and are very involved in our church, Beulaville Pentecostal FWB. Family is very important to me, and we spend time with our extended family at every chance!
My Bachelor's degree from UNC -Wilmington is in Elementary Education with a concentration in English. I received my Reading First certification from UNC-Pembroke with graduate courses in reading, and I am currently enrolled in the MAEd program at East Carolina University. I am a school technology representative, have previously served on our Leadership Team, Data Team, and a part of the Curriculum Writing Team.
We continue to teach using the Common Core curriculum. . I encourage you to take a look at the standards and how it will affect your child. Technology is a large part of accessing material in the classroom. Students may bring their own devices to use in my classroom. The material we access is easier viewed on tablets or larger screens, but SMART phones are also permitted for use in class. I reserve the right to remove that privilege if students misuse technology.
My job is to help your child succeed in his or her education. Keeping them focused, encouraged, and moving towards the destination of college - whether it's a trade school or university. I want your child to be successful at school and in life. Every child that enters my classroom becomes like one of mine. I pledge to you to I will give them my experience as a veteran teacher, to love them like my own, and to encourage them every step of the way.
What do I need from them and how can you help? Students should come to class prepared for the day. Arrive on time with all materials necessary for the day. Turn in assigned work on time, complete all assigned readings, and be engaged in the class. If they are absent, students should make every effort to get any missed notes, assignments, etc. on their return to school.
