2016 Self-Assessment Process(updated 5.3.2016)RationaleA vital component of the school improvement process is the collection and review of school data (demographic, performance, process, perception). Each year, it is important to analyze data to determine what changes, if any, may be necessary for School Improvement Plans. Knowing this, the process for schools to follow to self-assess their progress is outlined below.Phase 1-2: Data Collection and Review/Design Principle Rubric Assessment (To be completed by June 17, 2016)
- Administration and School Improvement Teams will determine the best method for collecting the data from the 2016 Self-Assessment Data Analysis Form. It is recommended that the staff be split into cross-curricular, cross-grade level teams aligned to Design Principles to complete this form so that multiple perspectives are considered when reviewing the data. Schools should have access to all data requested.
- To complete Phase 2, use the revised Design Principle Rubric. The same groups that collects data in Phase 1 should determine the progress on the rubric for their assigned Design Principle. Teams will circle the appropriate indicators on each row of the rubric, write the overall indicator (Beginning to New Paradigm) at the top of the rubric that best describe the school's overall progress for the assigned Design Principle, then submit their findings back to the School Improvement Team as planned. If a group determines the school to be at the New Paradigms level for a particular sub-section, the group should answer to corresponding questions for the sub-section. A representative artifact for each Design Principle should also be submitted back to the School Improvement Team that aligns with the chosen indicator. For sections that may not directly apply to the type of school you have (elementary, middle, high), please adjust the wording so that it does apply, if possible. If there is no way to make the section applicable, do not select an indicator for that row.
Phase 3-4: Data Summary and Areas for Study (To be completed by June 17, 2016)- Once all data is collected from Phase 1-2 and is submitted to the School Improvement Team, the School Improvement Team should analyze the data, Design Principle Rubric assessment, and representative artifacts to inform Phases 3-4 of the 2016 Self-Assessment Data Analysis Form. Phase 3 is a data summary in which schools will summarize the strengths, surprises, trends, gaps, and explain how consensus was formed with the Design Principle assessment. From there, the School Improvement Team will determine the Areas for Study in Phase 4, which will become the basis for school goals in the 2016-17 School Improvement Plan.
Phase 5: Impact Plan/School Improvement Planning (To be completed by September 16, 2016)- School Improvement Plans (Including Data Analysis Form, Impact Plan, Operational Activities Checklist, Title 1 Plan, Safe Schools Plan, SIP Waivers, etc.) are due for completion within the Document Tracking Service (DTS) website by September 16, 2016. See below for more information on how to access the DTS website and the school improvement plan timeline for 2016-17.
