Philosophy of Teaching and Education
"Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all." -Aristotle
I believe that each child is a special, unique individual and has the potential to change something whether it is in their community or in the world. I believe every child has talents and it is my job to foster those talents. I believe that classroom community is extremely important to student development and learning. Also, I believe it is my job to help children make decisions that will positively shape the rest of their lives.
If students are taught well, they will not only learn essential material, but also how to be successful in life. My job as a teacher is not to just teach content, but to ensure that my students leave my classroom prepared to face the outside world and to be critical thinkers. I will strive to keep a student-centered classroom so that students feel confident in their abilities to lead. For myself, teaching is an opportunity for life-long learning. Also, I hope to show students that I am passionate about what I do, and in that create a love of learning in them. Furthermore, I want to foster appropriate relationships with students so that they know they have someone in their corner.
