NC MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS
UNC-Chapel Hill Morehead Cain

There are a handful of dynamic leaders in every senior class that sets a higher standard for the rest—in character and achievement. They may be active in traditional activities such as student government and clubs, or they may have ventured out into new areas. In either case they have added to the positive spirit of our school and community—the senior class would be less active and engaged without them. It is from this elite group we hope to select our nominee. Our Morehead-Cain nominee must demonstrate the following criteria: Leadership, Scholarship, Moral Force of Character, & Physical Vigor.
NC State Park Scholarship
Application Deadline: November 1st (yearly)
If you believe you’re qualified for the Park Scholarships based on our selection criteria of scholarship, leadership, service, and character, we welcome you to apply! The application processes for Park Scholarships and NC State undergraduate admissions are separate.To be eligible for the Park Scholarships program, candidates must:
Have a minimum 3.5 unweighted GPA.
Be a United States citizen, permanent resident of the U.S., or graduating from a high school located in the U.S. (regardless of citizenship status).
Apply for fall, first-year admission into a baccalaureate program at NC State.
Not open to transfer students.
UNC Charlotte Levine Scholarship
Application Deadline: October 15th (yearly)
The Levine Scholars Program seeks outstanding high school seniors who are eager to embark on a transformative college experience. Note: Students must be admitted to UNC Charlotte to receive a Levine Scholarship. Students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, demonstrate a commitment to community service, hold an academic record that reflects a sustained passion for knowledge, and possess a capacity for ethical leadership that elevates fellow students to a higher standard. Students can self-nominate or must be nominated by a school staff member.
East Carolina University EC Scholars Program (Brinkley Lane)
Application Deadline: October 20th (yearly)
The Brinkley-Lane Scholars Award is the most prestigious scholarship offered at ECU. Students wishing to be considered for the Brinkley-Lane Scholars Scholars Award will first need to be accepted into the Honors College. Admission to the Honors College at East Carolina University is competitive and by invitation only. Students will need to meet minimum eligibility criteria to receive an invitation to apply by submitting a completed application for undergraduate admission to ECU by the priority deadline of October 20th.
Cheatham-White Scholarship (NC A&T and NC Central)
Application Deadline: November 15th (yearly)
The Cheatham-White scholarship covers full tuition and fees, housing, meals, textbooks, a laptop, travel, and personal expenses. To be eligible, applicants must satisfy the following criteria:
Be a competitive applicant for admission as a freshman student in the fall semester into a baccalaureate program at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University or North Carolina Central University (in-state and out-of-state students are both eligible.
NATIONAL MERIT & NEED-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS
Application Deadline: September 15
The Gates Scholarship (TGS) is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for outstanding, minority, high school seniors from low-income households.
Scholars will receive funding for the full cost of attendance* that is not already covered by other financial aid and the expected family contribution, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the methodology used by a Scholar’s college or university. Cost of attendance includes tuition, fees, room, board, books, and transportation, and may include other personal costs. To apply, students must be: A high school senior, From at least one of the following ethnicities: African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American, Pell-eligible, US citizen, national, or permanent resident--In good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent). Student must plan to enroll full-time, in a four-year degree program, at a US accredited, not-for-profit, private or public college or university.
Application Deadline: September 26
In order to be eligible to apply to the National College Match in the fall of 2023, applicants must graduate from high school during or before the summer of 2024 and plan to enroll as a first-year student in college in the fall of 2024. Any high school senior, regardless of citizenship, currently attending high school in the U.S. is eligible for the National College Match. Additionally, U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents living abroad are eligible. Students attending high school in the U.S. as undocumented or international students are eligible to apply, but should review the Additional Citizenship Requirements to see which QuestBridge college partners will consider them for the Match Scholarship.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to students in their final year of high school. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities.

The Dell Scholars program was designed to provide a support system for the challenges many students face while pursuing a degree. Even so, we recognize that college costs can be a significant burden for many students and their families. Nationally, 500 Dell Scholars are selected each year to receive a scholarship plus lots of non-monetary supports. All Dell Scholars receive a $20,000 scholarship and much more.
Davidson Fellows Scholarship
Application Deadline: February 14, 2024
$50,000, $25,000 and $10,000 scholarships are awarded to gifted students 18 years and younger who have completed a significant piece of work in one of nine categories: Science, technology, engineering, mathematics, music, literature, philosophy, and “out of the box”
The Test Prep Insight Scholarship

Not only is the Test Prep Insight team focused on providing high-quality, unbiased content about exams such as the MCAT, LSAT and GMAT, as well as language learning apps, we’re also committed to giving students with disabilities a better chance to achieve their professional goals. Our annual scholarship program allows us to level the financial playing field so that students with disabilities can earn the degree of their dreams. GE Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program

The GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship offers college scholarships of up to $40,000 for high school seniors nationwide who showcase leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship. Candidates must:
Demonstrate the attributes of leadership, integrity, drive, and citizenship within their communities, schools, and workplaces. Students must display strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent), Be citizens of the United States of America, Current high school seniors attending high school within the United States, Plan to enroll in a full‑time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four‑year college or university in the United States
Elks National Foundation Scholarship
Deadline: November 13, 2024
Since 1931, the Elks National Foundation has helped students recognize their academic dreams. Each year, we award more than $3 million in college scholarships to at least 850 outstanding, service-minded high school seniors. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2024 competition. Ranging from $1,000 per year to $12,500 per year, Most Valuable Student scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree, on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), in a U.S. college or university. All scholarships are in the form of certificates of award conditional upon the full-time enrollment of the winner in an accredited U.S. college or university.
Horatio Alger State Scholarship
Application Deadline: Opens December 1 2023
State scholarships are awarded to eligible students in all fifty states and the District of Columbia. The program specifically assists high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. The scholarships are funded by Horatio Alger Members who, like the Scholars, have experienced challenges but ultimately overcame them to become successful business and civic leaders.
To be eligible to apply for a Horatio Alger State Scholarship, applicants must be enrolled full time as a high school junior in the United States.
Horatio Alger Association- State, CTE, Targeted & National Scholarships
The Career & Technical Scholarship Program is funded through the generosity of Horatio Alger Association Members, Dennis R. Washington and Jim F. Dicke II. Scholarships are awarded to students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their lives who wish to pursue a career or technical education at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States. The Association offers several scholarship programs that either require an applicant to pursue a specific degree or attend a specific university. These specialized programs are funded through the generosity of individual Horatio Alger members.
Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship
Application Deadline: November 16
The Cooke College Scholarship Program is an undergraduate scholarship program available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend and graduate from the nation's top four-year colleges and universities. Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
Senior standing – Plan to graduate from a U.S. high school in spring 2024.
Fall College Enrollment – Intend to enroll in an accredited four-year college beginning in fall 2024.
GPA – Earn a minimum, cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above.
Demonstrate Unmet Financial Need – We will consider applicants with a maximum annual gross income of $95,000. Last year’s cohort of new College Scholarship recipients had a median family income of approximately $34,000. During the selection process, the Foundation will conduct a full financial review which will take into account all income and assets of the student and the student’s parents.

SME Education Foundation scholarships are funded by SME, by generous individuals, and by philanthropic organizations that share our goal of inspiring, preparing and supporting the next generation of manufacturing and engineering talent. Basic criteria: Must be a permanent resident or citizen of the United States or Canada, minimum of 2.0/4.0 GPA or higher, must be on a path toward an associate, bachelor’s or graduate degree in manufacturing engineering, technology, or closely related field at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada.
Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship

JRF Scholars receive grants of up to $30,000 over four years. In addition, scholars receive extensive support services, including career guidance and internship placement.Equitable Excellence ScholarshipApplication Deadline: December 18, 2023Equitable rewards 200 scholarships every year to current high school seniors who plan to enroll full time in an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year.
- 100 of those scholarships are a one time payment of $2,500.
- The other 100 scholarships are $5,000/yr renewable up to 4 years (Total of $20,000).
- In addition to the scholarship, every winner receives a $500 grant for their school as well as a $500 donors choose gift card to a teacher of the students' choice.
Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award
Application Deadline: August 1-November 15
Soroptimist, a global organization that provides women and girls access to education, offers the Live Your Dream Awards. Recipients have the potential to receive up to $16,000 to help offset tuition costs, purchase books, or find reliable childcare. Women who demonstrate financial need and who provide the primary financial support for themselves and their dependents are eligible.
Automotive Women’s Alliance Foundation Scholarship (AWAF)

The Automotive Women’s Alliance Foundation (AWAF) is an active professional foundation dedicated to supporting the advancement of automotive and mobility industry professionals.
Scholarships are selected by the Scholarship Committee and awarded quarterly to the women with a quest and drive for the automotive, mobility and related industries. It is our hope that with these scholarships, we can lessen the burden on students and allow them to focus on gaining knowledge and further development toward a solid career path in this ever-evolving expansion of global mobility.
Scholarships are awarded to females with North American citizenship and a passion for a career or advancement in the automotive, mobility and its related industries. While AWAF members and family members are encouraged to apply for scholarships, we encourage applicants who are not affiliated with the organization to also apply. To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants should be already accepted to or enrolled in an accredited collegiate program, with a 3.0 or higher GPA and a citizen within North America.
Traub-Dicker Rainbow Scholarship
Application Opens Spring Semester, Will Remain Open for 5 Weeks
The Stonewall Community Foundation aims to strengthen the LGBTQ movement by making smart, values-driven investments in dynamic organizations, projects, and leaders. The Traub-Dicker Rainbow Scholarship was established by Peggy Traub and Phyllis Dicker to encourage and support lesbian women in their pursuit of higher education. The program provides one-year scholarships of $1,500 or $3,000 to those graduating high school or already enrolled in college.
Prism Foundation Scholarship
Application Deadline: Opens in the Spring (Due typically- June 30)
The Point Foundation is the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer students of merit. Scholarship amounts vary. Applicants must work for the betterment of the LGBTQ community. Applicants must be enrolled full-time for the full academic year in a degree-granting undergraduate or graduate/doctoral program.

Latin Americans Working for Achievement (LAWA) provides scholarships based on academic achievement, financial need, and community service. The award amounts vary. This scholarship program is for high school seniors and undergraduate students.

The Advocates for African Americans Carolinas Scholarship (formerly named The African American Network) is a Duke Energy employee resource group that aims to develop growth opportunities for African American employees at Duke Energy.
Scholarship applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a graduating senior at a North or South Carolina high school. Applicants must attend a four-year college or university in North or South Carolina, and they must plan to major in engineering, computer science, the sciences, accounting, finance, or business administration.
Great Minds in STEM Scholarship Program
Application Deadline: April 30
Great Minds in STEM™ is the gateway for Hispanics in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Scholarship applicants must be of Hispanic descent and/or must demonstrate significant leadership or service within the underserved community. Applicants must have an overall minimum GPA of 3.0 and must be pursuing a science, technology, engineering, or math degree.
MPOWER Women in STEM Scholarship

Student lender MPOWER Financing offers this annual scholarship to female international or DACA students in a STEM degree program. There are several prize options up to $6,000.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship
Application Deadline: No later than the first Monday in February
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Scholarship was established in 1992 by the North Carolina Association of Educators Minority Affairs Commission under the auspices of the Human and Civil Rights Commission. It continues in partnership with the North Carolina Foundation for Public School Children. Scholarship awards are based on the amount of money received annually through donations and the Martin Luther King Jr events. Applicants must be North Carolina residents enrolled in a public high school in their senior year. Criteria for selection include character, community involvement, and scholastic achievement (minimum 2.5 GPA).
American Indian College Fund
Application Deadline: February 1-May 31
The American Indian College Fund provides scholarships to American Indian and Alaska Native college students. Applicants must be registered as an enrolled member of a federal- or state-recognized tribe; or a descendant of at least one grandparent or parent who is an enrolled tribal member. Applicants must be enrolled at an accredited tribal, public, or private (non-profit) college or university.The North Carolina Association of Educators Minority Affairs Commission established this scholarship in 1992. Applicants must be North Carolina residents enrolled in a public high school in their senior year. Criteria for selection include character, community involvement, and scholastic achievement (with a minimum 2.5 GPA).
North Carolina Hispanic College Fund
The North Carolina Society of Hispanic Professionals established the North Carolina Hispanic College Fund (NCHCF) to benefit Hispanic students in North Carolina. The NCHCF awards annual scholarships worth between $500 and $3,000. Scholarship recipients must be of Hispanic/Latino background. They must enroll in a degree program at a community college or a two- or four-year college/university and be committed to public service and community development.

Generation Google Scholarship

The Generation Google Scholarship was established to help aspiring students pursuing computer science degrees excel in technology and become leaders in the field. Selected students will receive $10,000. The Generation Google Scholarship will be awarded based on the strength of each candidate's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, demonstrated leadership, and academic performance. The program is open to students who meet all the minimum qualifications and we strongly encourage students that identify with groups historically excluded from the technology industry, including Women, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, to apply.

Through a partnership with United States Hispanic Leadership Institute, Rumba is awarding 25 post-secondary academic scholarships of $1,000 each and helping empower today’s Hispanic youth to become tomorrow’s leaders. Dr. Juan Andrade Jr. Scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaders

Since 1982, USHLI has awarded over $1.5 million in scholarships and internships to students from disenfranchised groups. Most notably, the Dr. Juan Andrade Jr. Scholarship for young Hispanic Leaders seeks to recognize Hispanic students who share Dr. Andrade’s lifelong commitment to servant leadership. Recipients will receive a non-renewable scholarship- $1,000 for a 4-year institution or $500 for a 2-year institution) for undergraduate students.Applicants must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as full-time undergraduate students, in an accredited four-year or two-year institution in the U.S. or U.S. territories, and demonstrate a verifiable need for financial support. Subway Cares Foundation
Since 2007, Folds of Honor has awarded over 35,000 educational scholarships to the families of military men and women who have fallen or been disabled while on active duty in the United States armed forces. Our Subway Cares grant will fund vocational school and culinary school scholarships through the Folds of Honor scholarship program. (Check under the National Merit & Need Based Scholarship Section)
$20,000 scholarships: 11 available; for four-year colleges or graduate schools, $5,000 scholarships: Hundreds available; for four-year colleges or graduate schools, $2,500 scholarships: Hundreds available; for two-year colleges or trade/vocational schools. U.S. Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) scholarships provide full financial assistance for college tuition and mandatory education fees (or room and board). Additionally, scholarship winners receive tax free subsistence allowance for up to 10 months a year at a rate of $420.00 per month and $1200 annually for textbooks, classroom supplies, and equipment. Students does not have to be in high school JROTC to apply.
Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation

This Scholarship Pays 100% of Tuition Costs, Either in State or out of State, for Four Years While a Student Completes Their Bachelor's Degree. James Sprunt CC Foundation Scholarships
Application Deadline: Opens Spring Semester
A limited number of academic scholarships are awarded each year to students currently enrolled or planning to enroll in a curriculum program at James Sprunt Community College. Awards range from $250 to $1,200. These awards are made based on scholarship criteria set forth by the donors. The criteria include, but are not limited to: academic record, community involvement, and program of study.
The Golden LEAF Scholarship
The Golden LEAF Community College Scholarship provides scholarships of up to $2,250 annually to curriculum students and up to $1850 annually to workforce continuing education students. Scholarship funds can be used to cover the cost of attendance, which includes items such as tuition, fees, books, supplies, credentialing tests, transportation, and childcare. A scholarship recipient who resides in an eligible county upon initial award may retain eligibility and may be eligible for renewal awards if the student’s place of residence is within the state of North Carolina (Duplin Co. is an eligible county). Eligible students may receive an award each year.
Sampson CC Foundation Scholarships
For the 2020-2021 academic year, over $170,000 was awarded through 100 different scholarships to more than 125 deserving students. These scholarships help local students, many of whom do not qualify for federal student aid. This money allows students to pay for tuition and books—which in many cases means not having to work two jobs, having extra money for child care, or being able to finish their degree sooner.

Wake Technical CC Foundation Scholarships
Foundation scholarships make pursuing an education affordable for many and enables Wake Tech to attract and retain talented students. During the 2021-22 school year, 1,520 students were awarded scholarships. Scholarships may be designated to assist certificate, diploma or associate degree students in any curriculum program and may be based on financial need or academic merit, according to donor preference.

Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis by a selection committee. Applicants must enroll, demonstrate academic promise, participate in school and community activities, and show some financial need. The application deadline is the last Friday in March each year.

Winning a Heisman HS Scholarship requires a weighted 3.0 GPA or better, participation in at least one sport, and demonstrated leadership at school and in the community.
Dixie Youth Baseball (DYB) Scholarship
Application Deadline: Not open yet
Qualifications are simple; actually, there is only one qualification - the person must have at one time played in a Dixie Youth Baseball franchised league, prior to reaching age 13. There is no relationship between the award of a scholarship and athletic ability. The committee gives weight to such factors as financial need, scholastic record, and citizenship.
