COL (R) Mark Hendrick

COL (R) Mark Hendrick is the Senior Army Instructor for the JROTC Program at East Duplin High School.  He enlisted in the Army in 1982 and after Basic, AIT and Airborne schools, was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC in the 82nd Airborne Division where he was a Field Artilleryman.  As a Sergeant at Fort Bragg, he married and then was accepted into Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Fort Benning, Georgia in 1985.  After commissioning as a 2nd Lieutenant in December 1985 he attended the Officer Basic Course at Fort Bliss, Texas and then back to Fort Bragg, NC and the 82nd Airborne Division as an Air Defense Artillery Officer.  He attended the Air Defense Officers Advance Course in 1989 and then moved his family to Germany and the 3rd Infantry Division.  He left active duty in 1992 and joined the NC National Guard as a traditional Guardsman.  In 2004 he went back to full time duty for the remainder of his career as an Active Guard member and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2006-2007.  After returning in 2007 became the NC Counterdrug Commander and then moved to Arlington Virginia as the National Guard Bureau Deputy Counterdrug Chief. He remained on Active Duty until his retirement in 2014.  


Leadership positions include; Field Artillery Assistant Gunner (NCO), Platoon Leader, Battery Executive Officer, Battery Commander, Assistant Operations Officer (S3), Battalion Intelligence Officer (S2), Brigade Logistics Officer (S4), Battalion Commander, Field Artillery Brigade Executive Officer (XO), State Counterdrug Commander, National Guard Bureau Deputy Counterdrug Chief.
