Welcome to Math 1 in 8th Grade at WALE
This page will provide important information to get us started in the school year. Please continue reading for more information.
Taking Math 1 in 8th grade can be a challenge but also has it's advantages when transitioning to high school. The content is rigorous as is the end of course exam. Math 1 is typically a semester long when taken in high school; however, in 8th grade, we offer it for a full year and also build in some of the 8th grade content that the students miss and need due to going straight into math 1. This extended time of a full year rather than a semester, allows students to take additional time to grasp difficult concepts and prepare for their exam at the end of the course. Students will need to work diligently and self-advocate for themselves when they need help. The goal is to be as prepared for their exam and for Math 2 as possible. In Math 1, the EOC exam counts for 20% of their final grade after being calculated in with the G1-G4 grades. It is important to keep that in mind as it is the first time for these students that the exam counts as a grade.
I am so looking forward to working with you and building a relationship while also building mathematical knowledge and reasoning skills. Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
