Bio
My name is Lisa Chittick, and I was born in San Diego, California. My father was in the U.S. Marine Corps, and my mother is of Okinawan descent (they met during my father's first tour of duty on Okinawa). I have one brother and one sister (I am the oldest). I have lived in several places and attended eight different schools by the time I graduated from high school. I went to college for a couple of years and earned two Associate's degrees before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. I served as an Aerospace Physiology Instructor. At my first duty station, I trained navigator students and pilots on various aspects of flight physiology, including the altitude chamber to simulate lack of oxygen on the body. At my next duty station, I had the opportunity to work with the U-2 program by maintaining the full pressure "space suits" that the pilots wear on high altitude missions. It was pretty exciting, but after four years of service, I was ready for a bit of a change.
I separated from the service to resume my college education. I earned my B.A. in psychology from California State University Chico. I soon moved to North Carolina and began my life in Jacksonville. I obtained a part time position as a Basic Skills Instructor for Coastal Carolina Community College, where I have worked for nearly 20 years. I worked at Camp Johnson, Camp Lejeune, and New River Air Station teaching reading and math improvement courses to Marines. After about a year, I was hired as an exceptional children teacher in the K-12 setting.
I returned to school to pursue a Master's in Education in the area of Special Education through East Carolina University. I am also a graduate of the Instructors' Academy through Coastal Carolina Community College. I have experience teaching students of all ability levels from pre-K to the college level. I am beginning my 10th year of teaching at East Duplin High School.
