Thirty Duplin HSA students joined together with the Pitt HSA at the ECU School of Dental Medicine on September 25 for Dental Night. Students learned about pathways to dental school, participated in a panel discussion with current dental students, and practiced simulation labs led by ECU dental students and instructors.

ECU Health Duplin PreShadow Day
ECU Health Duplin Hospital hosted a Pre- Job Shadowing Career Exploration Day for Academy students who have committed to the job shadowing process. Presentations by physical and occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, nursing, clinical lab, pharmacy, and EastCare
Campbell CPHS Pharmacy Day
On November 6, thirty students from the Duplin Health Sciences Academy explored the exciting world of healthcare careers during Pharmacy Day at Campbell University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. This unique experience gave students a firsthand look at pharmacy, nursing, clinical research, and other health sciences programs while offering an engaging day of hands-on learning.
Highlights of the visit included a campus tour, interactive discussions with admissions representatives, and a two-hour lab session led by Dr. Xin Chen, Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical and Chemical Sciences. In the lab, students applied their classroom chemistry knowledge to compound pharmaceuticals, bridging the gap between academic concepts and real-world pharmacy practices.
Students from all five district high schools participated in this inspiring event, reflecting the Health Sciences Academy’s dedication to preparing future healthcare professionals. By connecting students with higher education opportunities and practical experiences, the program continues to cultivate their passion for making a difference in the medical field.
This immersive day left students with valuable insights into the diverse career paths available in healthcare, reinforcing the importance of their academic efforts as they look ahead to bright futures.
JSCC Hands on Heroes EMT Training Experience
On Nov. 26, JSCC invited Duplin Health Sciences Academy students to visit their program and engage in 6 hands-on EMS simulation activities.
The event, called "Hands On Heroes," featured five interactive stations where students received practical training: Airway, CPR, Hemorrhage Control, Ambulance Simulator, and Splinting
This hands-on experience aims to inspire students to pursue their EMT certification, a pathway they can begin while still in high school!
