Volunteer Information
Volunteer Requirements
- All academy students are required to submit documentation showing a minimum of 25 hours of volunteer work each school year.
- Volunteer Hours for the 2024-2025 school year must be submitted by May 1, 2025.
- Mid-year applicant due date: August 31, 2025. (See Mrs. Jackson if you are unsure if this applies to you.)
- Not meeting this deadline may result in separation from the academy.
- Volunteer medals will be awarded for 50, 100, 150, and 200 hours of service.
- Of the 100 hours required by graduation, 25 hours must be obtained in a clinical setting.
- The 25 clinical hours can be obtained evenly throughout each year of high school, but it is not necessary to obtain the hours in this manner.
- ECU Health-Duplin Hospital's VolunTeen Summer Program is a recommended method for earning the total 25 hours of clinical time as it provides an invaluable opportunity for our HSA students.
- Applicants for VolunTeen must have completed their freshman year of high school and commit to volunteering for a minimum of 30 hours during the summer.
- Limited slots are available, so it is important to apply early in the application period.
- Keep checking the HSA Google Classroom and Remind messages for VolunTeen application information in January/February.
Volunteer Hour Log-In Sheet
- Volunteer hours must be logged on the Duplin HSA Volunteer Log.
- Individual volunteer logs were shared with each student in their emails last August. Students who were accepted mid-year were sent a log with their acceptance letter. If you need to access this, go to your Google Drive and search for "Your Name - Duplin HSA Volunteer Log." You will then be able to type in your hours on your individual logs.
- Volunteer hours will not be counted unless recorded on this form.
- IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Please make sure the name of the event, an adult supervisor's name and all other parts of the form are complete. Otherwise, the hours cannot count towards the 25 hour yearly total.
Volunteer Dress Code
- Follow dress code policies for the organization site. This should be discussed before volunteering with the site manager there to make sure you adhere to any dress code specifications the site may have.
- Clinical settings will most likely have a dress code. If you are in doubt, please contact Mrs. Jackson for more guidance. When volunteering, you are representing the Academy.
- While not a requirement, it is highly suggested to wear your HSA Volunteer T-shirt or more formal HSA academy gear if necessary. Volunteers with ECU Health-Duplin Hospital will receive a volunteer t-shirt that is required and enforced during summer VolunTEEN hours.
