Internet Safety

It is the responsibility of all Duplin County School system’s personnel to educate minors about appropriate online behavior (behavior on social networking websites and in chat rooms, and cyberbullying awareness and response) as well as supervise and monitor usage of the online computer network and access to the Internet in accordance with the Internet Safety policy, the Children’s Internet Protection Act, the Neighborhood Children’s Internet Protection Act and the Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act.

CIPA requirements:

Schools should provide education about appropriate online behavior (online safety & cyberbullying) to their students who are actually accessing the Internet using E-rate covered services.  Schools are not required to provide education about appropriate online behavior to very young students who are not yet using the Internet in school. To the extent a school is aware that some students have missed the scheduled training, the school should take reasonable steps to provide make-up training or otherwise provide the relevant material to those students.

K-5:
Students will receive cyberbullying and Internet Safety classes in grades K-5 annually from media coordinators. Make-up classes will be provided to those students who are absent on the day of instruction to ensure that every child has received training. Also, teachers will integrate cyberbullying and Internet Safety classes throughout the year in the regular classroom. 

6-8:
Students will receive cyber bullying and Internet safety classes in 6th grade annually from media coordinators.  Make-up classes will be provided to those students who are absent on the day of instruction to ensure that every child has received training.  Also, teachers will integrate cyber bullying and Internet safety classes throughout the year in the regular classroom.  In addition, CTE classes will provide instruction on cyber bullying and Internet safety.

9-12:
Students will receive cyber bullying and Internet safety classes in 9th  grade annually from media coordinators.  Make-up classes will be provided to those students who are absent on the day of instruction to ensure that every child has received training.  Also, teachers will integrate cyber bullying and Internet safety classes throughout the year in the regular classroom.
