Substitute Teacher Resources
HOW TO BECOME A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER WITH DUPLIN COUNTY SCHOOLS
1. Complete Effective Teacher Training. EFT is offered at most community colleges.
2. Complete an online application. Click here to apply
If you have problems with the application, please contact Kim Matthis at 910 296-6626.
3. Choose a school that will serve as your "home school". Take the bookkeeper the following information:
Effective Teacher Training Certificate
High School Transcript and/or a copy of your High School Diploma or GED
Current TB Test
NC Drivers License and Social Security Card
3. The bookkeeper will forward to the Human Resources Office your request to substitute. A background check will be completed and, if approved, HR will submit the substitute request for board approval.
4. All applicants must attend substitute orientation. The orientation is held in the Central Office Board Room on the dates listed below. You cannot substitute until the orientation is completed.
5. Applicants who have been approved to substitute will receive an approval letter from Human Resources.

Effective Teacher Training
