Annual Technology Fee

Over the years, Duplin County Schools has remained committed to equipping every student with the technology needed to engage in meaningful learning experiences, access innovative instructional resources, develop essential digital skills, and prepare for success in college, careers, and an increasingly technology-driven world. This investment reflects the district's commitment to innovative learning and academic excellence.

Through the district's instructional technology program, students have access to devices that support daily classroom instruction, digital collaboration, and state assessments, as well as instructional tools and resources that enhance learning both inside and outside the classroom. Since launching the initiative, Duplin County Schools has provided the instructional technology to students without an annual technology fee. 

As technology ages and the costs of maintaining, repairing, replacing, and securing these resources continue to rise, the Duplin County Board of Education has approved a $20 annual technology fee to help sustain this investment. This fee will help ensure students continue to have access to reliable technology that supports teaching and learning for years to come.

The annual technology fee is $20 per student.

Funds collected from the technology fee will help sustain the district's instructional technology program by supporting the technology infrastructure, routine maintenance, the replacement of aging devices, and technical support that keep technology reliable, secure, and ready for learning. The fee also helps offset the cost of repairs completed by district technicians, allowing Duplin County Schools to provide timely service while keeping accidental damage repair charges as affordable as possible for families.

The annual technology fee is separate from the district's optional device insurance program. While the technology fee helps support the district's instructional technology program, it does not cover charges associated with accidental or intentional damage, loss, or theft of an individual student's device. Families who wish to protect against those potential costs will continue to have the option to purchase optional device insurance.
 

At this time, technology fee payments are accepted by cash or check only, and should be submitted to your child's homeroom teacher. Please make checks payable to your child's school and include your child's name and school on the check to ensure the payment is applied correctly.

The annual technology fee helps support the district's overall instructional technology program. It does not cover accidental damage, intentional damage, loss, or theft of an individual student's device. Families who wish to protect against those potential costs will continue to have the option to purchase optional device insurance.

Optional device insurance will continue to be available for families who wish to protect against repair or replacement charges resulting from accidental damage, loss, or theft.

Yes. Technology fee refunds are available on a prorated basis in accordance with Duplin County Board of Education policy and North Carolina law.

Families may request a refund if a student withdraws from Duplin County Schools to enroll in another North Carolina public school district or leaves school due to illness or another reason approved by the principal.

Students who transfer between Duplin County Schools during the school year will not be charged the technology fee a second time.

If a student transfers to another North Carolina public school district during the school year, does not request a refund, and later returns to Duplin County Schools during the same school year, the technology fee will not be assessed again.

Yes. Duplin County Schools is committed to ensuring every student has access to the technology needed for learning. Students will continue to receive a device for instructional purposes while families complete payment or explore available technology fee waiver opportunities.

However, in accordance with Board policy, parents or guardians must complete the Responsible Use Form through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal before a device can be issued to their student.

Families are encouraged to pay the annual technology fee or apply for a fee waiver as soon as possible. Schools will work with families regarding any outstanding technology fees.
