Welcome to my homepage!
I am extremely excited to be starting my 5th year here at B.F. Grady. It has been such a humbling experience how the students, staff, parents and community have welcomed me as though I was one of their own. It certainly has made me feel as though I was back in my hometown in Missouri.
I love and enjoy being a 4th grade teacher. I am often funny, sarcastic and love to joke with my students and their age and level of maturity allows me to be my self. This shows them a personal side of me that helps them fit in and feel comfortable in our classroom. I often hear teachers say that their students are like their children and I couldn't agree more. My students always know that I care and love them as if they were my very own.
I grew up in a small town in Missouri with my parents and an older brother. I always liked school and participated in many activities such as FTA, FBLA, cheerleading, and band, to name a few. I kept my parents very busy. I graduated high school with honors and attended our local community college to finish out my associates degree. At that time I was uncertain of what I truly wanted to do and I ended up going to cosmetology school and pursuing a career in cosmetology. I loved this job and still have my cosmetology license.
In 2009, I married my husband, Greg, who is currently serving in the United States Marine Corps and stationed here at Camp Lejeune. We soon decided to start a family and I quit working to stay home and raise our son Derek. We also made the decision that I would return to college and continue my dream of one day becoming a teacher. Due to us being military, I took online classes through the University of Phoenix and earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Don't let anyone fool you, those online classes are tough!
We have called Duplin County our home now for 8 years. Through this time we have endured 3 deployments and 1 tour in Japan. Derek and I flew to Japan for the summer of 2016 to visit Greg. We went on many adventures while there and learned a little Japanese too ("Arigatoo" means "Thank you"). One fond memory for us was when we rode the bullet train (180 mph) to Tokyo and ventured Disney World and Disney Sea.
Traveling is definitely a passion of mine as well as decorating and shopping. I love to refinish furniture and redecorate spaces. My classroom is certainly considered one of these spaces. When the students walk in they feel the warmth and love I put into this great space. I create a welcoming and comfortable place for them to learn and grow as one big family.
I am looking forward to another incredible year here at B.F. Grady and I hope you and your children are as well. If you need to contact me for any reason please don't hesitate to call the school or email me at email@example.com.
I took this quote from a blog I read and I find it to be very true to my heart.Words I live by:
Transforming Education with Passion, Reflection, & Change
I strive to be an extraordinary leader one day at a time. I promise myself that I will be transparent, loyal, trustworthy, passionate, loving, compassionate, reflective and ALWAYS put KIDS first. If all of the decisions I make are what is best for KIDS, I sleep really well at night-Leigh Ragsdale
