    Dear Parents/Guardians,
Hello, my name is Richard Jata, and this is my 4th year as a K-5 Health & Physical Education Teacher here at Rose Hill-Magnolia Elementary School.  It is my goal as your child’s Health & PE Teacher to explain and demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to empower and strengthen them to make wise decisions concerning their health and physical activity.

As more research is done on exercise, sports and Physical Education, the more obvious the importance of each and every student developing Health and Physical Literacy becomes.  Physical Education and Health are not just important for those students that want to be athletes or doctors, but for everyone to develop social, emotional and physical skills and knowledge that they will need for the rest of their lives.  Please CLICK on the picture <-- of the soccer player for a cool video that explains what Health and Physical Literacy is.

I aspire for my PE/Health program to help equip my students with the skills and knowledge they will need to lead healthy and active lifestyles.  I build my curriculum with a focus on the state and national standards; as well as sportsmanship, life skills, good character and having FUN.  I see my K-2nd grade classes in the Gym for 55 minutes of Physical Education twice a week, and I see my 3rd-5th grade classes for 55 minutes twice a week - once in the Gym for Physical Education and once in my classroom for Health.

An understanding of what constitutes good health and physical activity will influence your child’s decisions for the rest of his or her life.  However, the biggest influence children have in regards to their health is YOU!!  So as parents, please encourage your children by spending time in activity with them, so that you may both experience the benefits of leading and active lifestyle.  Regular physical activity is not only essential for healthy growth and development; it can actually boost students’ academic achievement by increasing their ability to settle in and focus on their academic work.  My classes also help students to achieve success in life through goal setting, developing perseverance, learning to use team work and improving self confidence.  Regular physical activity not only helps to maintain a healthy body weight, but has also been shown to lower levels of stress, anxiety, and depression.

I am excited about the positive impact I will have in my student’s lives, and I am determined to help them succeed in and outside of my classroom.  My passion for healthy living and physical activity made it possible for me to become a professional soccer player.  It is my pleasure to encourage and inspire my students to believe in themselves so that they are able to achieve their dreams.  Tennis shoes, positive attitudes, participation, and good sportsmanship are requirements for my students to have when they enter the gym and classroom. Please feel free to contact me by email if you have any questions or concerns.  I look forward to meeting you all in the near future.

I truly appreciate the opportunity to teach your children!
