MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS

This past Saturday, Mikyah Garner, Esmeralda Garcia, and Luke Grady attended the 45th Annual UNC-Pembroke Honor Band. They represented us superbly and had the honor of working with Dr. Andrea Brown from the University of Maryland.
Also, this past Friday our advanced band auditioned for the Duplin All-County Band. 15 of our band students earned spots in the All-County Honor Band, with four securing 1st chair for the COUNTY: Jacqueline Reyes Gonzalez (Clarinet), Esmeralda Garcia (Alto Saxophone), DeNarrio Bailey (Tuba), and Temira Sherrod (Percussion).
Please congratulate these students when you see them today, we are very proud of them!
Girls track practice has been canceled. It will resume tomorrow, Tuesday, March 19.
ATTENTION SENIORS: Our Senior Meeting will be held this Friday at 9:00 in the cafeteria. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT MEETING. Please make plans to attend!
DRIVERS ED STUDENTS - There will be no Drivers Ed today. In order to make up for today, the rest of the class dates will go to 6.
The Junior/Senior Prom will be held Friday, April 26th. Tickets sales will start this Wednesday. Please see Mrs. Powers during your lunch time to purchase tickets. Individual tickets are $40, Couple Tickets are $75. If your date is not currently a student at JK, please see Mrs. Powers for a guest form.

Congratulations to the men and women’s Tiger Track teams on their performance yesterday at East Duplin. A big shout out to Darius Howard on his awesome performance. Darius blew out all of his competition with a 55 second 400 meter run. Go Darius and Tiger track teams.
ATTENTION STUDENTS AND TEACHERS: Until further notice, all tardies and ISS students should report to Ms. Lanier. Teachers please call 806 before sending a student to ISS, and send work with them.
Attention Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors - James Kenan is planning a Field Trip to North Carolina Central University on April 18! The cost to go is $35. Permission forms can be picked up from Ms. Gammons or Ms. Middleton. There are 30 spaces, and you must turn in your money and signed permission form to secure your spot.
James Sprunt Community College will host a Parent Night tonight at 6:00 at the college. Any students wishing to take JSCC classes during high school should plan to attend. They will review the course options, you'll be able to meet some of the instructors, and JSCC will review all requirements and procedures for enrollment.
The Battle of the Books team will meet in the media center daily during Flex this week.

James Sprunt Community College will host a Parent Night tomorrow night at the college. Any students wishing to take JSCC classes during high school should plan to attend. They will review the course options, you'll be able to meet some of the instructors, and JSCC will review all requirements and procedures for enrollment. Happy Music In Our Schools Month! Today I'll share a fun Music Fact.The “First Lady of Children’s Song,” Ella Jenkins, turns 100 this year. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on August 6, 1924. Growing up in the south side of Chicago, she was immersed in a rich musical culture. She spent more than 50 years performing and teaching children."

Mrs. Oakes would like to thank everyone who helped with the Junior Class Ring Ceremony. From setting up to getting through the program, the teamwork was amazing! We had a great turnout!
Congratulations to the Lady Tigers Soccer team on their win against Union last night with a score of 2 to 1. Tigers were led in scores by Yasmira Delao and Karla Diaz. The goals were assisted by Daniella Garcia and Shania Jones. Good luck to the Lady tigers as they take on North Duplin tonight!
Today there will be a James Sprunt Community College rep here from their Allied Health program. If this interests you, stop by their table during your lunch.
March is National Music in Our Schools Month and here are today's clues for JK Musical Trivia: This person played the Alto Saxophone during middle school, and even got a piccolo for christmas one year because they thought it “looked cute,” but couldn’t play it. They go to many concerts and try to go to at least one country music concert a year - this year they are going to see Morgan Wallen.
Attention Tigers, today during 4th period Beta will be hosting the ACT Basketball Tournament. If you have bought tickets to attend this event you will need to report to your 4th period class and wait for an announcement to be released. You will need your red ticket to enter the game. Teams that have signed up to play will need to report to the gym directly after 3rd period.

Any student who has to be reported for any behavioral issue will not be allowed to attend any other event hosted by the James Kenan Beta Club.

Each morning I will read a few musical clues about one of our staff members and you get to guess who it is during lunch! Two names will be selected from the group of students who guess the name correctly and they will receive a treat from Mrs. Best. Here are today's clues:

Congratulations to JK ROTC cadets and SFC Fields and MSG Graves on a JOB WELL done on their inspection which occurred yesterday. We were told that the students did an awesome job with the interviews.
This is National School Counseling Week! Thank you, Mrs. Lee, Ms. Todd, and also to Mrs. Oakes! Please take a moment to stop by and let them know they are loved and appreciated. Our counselors work so hard and we are thankful for everything they do!
This is also Bus Driver Appreciation Week, which is "aimed to raise awareness and appreciation for the safe experience of riding the bus to and from school." JK appreciates all of our bus drivers. A special shout out to Mr. Simmons for driving a bus and working on campus.
February is Black History Month. "The significance of Black History Month is to remember and celebrate important people and events in the history of the African diaspora."

The First Baptist Church in Wallace would like to extend an invitation to attend Prom Glitz this Saturday, February 3. They will have over 500 prom dresses along with shoes and jewelry available for free. James Kenan shopping time is from 11 to 1. Please enter through the front of the church. Women's soccer will have an interest meeting Friday during flex in Coach Kenny's room.
JROTC is taking the 2nd semester trip to Washington DC/Baltimore for the CIAA Education events. The trip is February 27-29 and we will be taking 40 students. The cost of the trip is $250 plus spending money. The $250 is due to SFC Fields no later than February 9. We will tour Washington DC as well as participate in the CIAA education day at the convention center. Students interested in attending must be in good standings in all classes. Please see MSG Graves or SFC Fields for more information.

Beta's Annual After the ACT Basketball Tournament will be held 4th period, Tuesday, February 27. Tickets are $4.99 and will be on sale this week during lunch. See a Beta member outside of the cafeteria to purchase tickets.
This is the fourth day of our “Duplin County WORKS” celebration. Each letter in the word WORKS has a special meaning related to career and technical education. Today, the letter K stands for Knowledgeable. A knowledgeable student is one who works independently, is goal oriented, and focuses on career and personal development. Each teacher may recognize one student who best exhibits this characteristic.
There will be a Blood Drive held in the gym on Friday, March 1. Email Mrs. Martin or visit the booth by the cafeteria to sign up.
Today there will be a rep from the Sampson Community College, Truck Driving Training program during our lunches. If this interests you please stop by their table during your lunch to ask questions.
