Welcome to the Virtual STEM Lab
Rose Hill-Magnolia Elementary School!
I am so excited to be facilitating the STEAMA lab again this year. While this year will start in an atypical manner, we remain committed to the STEAMA (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math, Agriculture) initiative. The key word for this year will be adaptability. Things may change, grow and evolve, but what better training for the workforce than to develop the soft skills (people skills) that employers are looking for in their new hires.
As a result, this school year will start like many jobs in the current workforce, remotely. In Duplin County, this means you will be learning online or with paper packets. This document will serve as our outline for work during this time. In this document you will read about expectations and procedures, much like you would during the orientation period of a job. Please read carefully because the information below will affect your grades. (In the workforce this would affect your pay.)
Expectations and Procedures:
If you are learning with VIRTUAL MODULES: Each week you will be assigned work to be completed by a due date. At least a week’s worth of work will be posted at a time. This work is located in Canvas. For help on how to use and access Canvas, please go to the attached link. Once you are in canvas, click on the Module scheduled for the week. Inside the Module will be ALL the work that you need to complete for that week. Work can be turned in early.
ALSO, students can go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/education/products/office to get any of the MS Office programs like Word, PPT, and Excel for free that are web-based and can be used on their chromebooks. All they have to do is register with their school email account.
If you are learning with PACKET MODULES: Each week you will be given a packet. All assigned work must be completed and returned by a due date. At least a week’s worth of work will be given at a time. Inside the Module will be ALL the work that you need to complete for that week. Work can be turned in early.
(orientation week will be slightly different)
Monday – Read SySTEM Alert!
Tuesday – Vocabulary
Wednesday – Hands on Activity
Thursday – Quiz
Friday - Xello
Directions will be provided each day on how to complete the task.
The best way to contact me is by email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Students who need face to face help can feel free to use the Google meet link during my office hours.
All correspondence will need to be made using Canvas, phone or email from a school account. Please do not use a personal email account. If adults need to contact me via email, please have them use your school account and make sure that they sign their name to the bottom. If adults need to talk with me, I can be reached Monday - Friday, 10 am – 2:30 pm during the school. After office hours need to be done by e-mail.
Safety continues to be of the utmost importance. All hands-on activities will need to be conducted in a safe manner, being aware of others that may come in contact with your work. These hands-on activities are meant to be done using common household items; however, if at any point you do not have the materials available, please contact your teacher immediately. A kit will be provided.
Grading: Grades will be taken on ALL assigned work. The grades will be put into PowerSchool in a timely manner so that you can access your grades there and in Canvas:
