Dr. P. Blackmon
I have been in the field of education for twenty-eight years in the state of North Carolina having the honor to meet hundreds of wonderful people from the mountains to the coast in my various roles.
I earned my first education degree from East Carolina University and began my teaching career in Craven County at West Craven Middle School. After a few years, I then earned my Masters of Arts in English degree, also from East Carolina University. Then, I expanded my teaching experiences into PItt County Schools where I taught at Ayden Middle and North Pitt High.
After several years of teaching, I was given the opportunity to expand my educational knowledge into the field of statewide testing development and began working at NC State University. I was fortunate to assist in the development of our NC End-of Grade and End-of-Course assessments. This job opportunity led to a position with the NC Department of Public Instruction as a Middle and Secondary English Consultant. This job allowed me to travel the state and support the learning of our state standards with principals, parents, and students. I also was able to support teachers in advancing their pedagogies to strengthen students’ disciplinary literacy skills.
After retiring early to assist my mother’s health care, I finalized my doctoral degree in education in the area of Teacher Leadership: Disciplinary Literacy. In January of 2018, I re-entered the field of education as an English classroom teacher at Duplin Early College High School. I am so blessed to work with such a powerful and dedicated group of educators and devoted students body.
