Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome to the Electrical Trades! My name is Kenneth Williams, but most at the school call me Coach Kenny. I was raised in Craven County, but have lived in Duplin County for almost twenty years and am proud to call it my home. As our Electrical Trades program enters its third year, I am more excited than ever about the continued growth and future opportunities this program offers for our students, school, and community. I have been a part of the Tiger family for five years now, beginning with my current position as head coach for girl's basketball. In addition to coaching, I also served as a bus driver and long-term substitute before moving into the classroom full-time. My goal is to continue to do everything possible to serve our students and this school, as we build an Electrical program that is second to none.
Before stepping away to pursue my goals of teaching full-time, I worked in the electrical industry for nearly 25 years, with 20 years of that time serving in supervisory and training positions of different levels. This experience has given me keen insight into the needs of the industry, as well as the training methods and techniques required to ensure our students have the knowledge and skill set upon which they can build successful careers. The electrical industry is as important and vital to our futures as ever, and together we will build an electrical program that is second to none!
The 2023/24 school year is going to be an exciting one for our program, with continued increased enrollment, new shop stations, and apprenticeship partnerships with several electrical contractors in our region. In addition, we will look to add a SkillsUSA chapter here at James Kenan, which will create the opportunity for our students to compete against others across the state in electrical skills-based events. It is definitely a great time to be a Tiger!!
