Degrees and Certifications:
BA Middle Grades Education MAT Biology
NCSTA District II Middle School
Science Teacher of the Year 2019-2020
I earned my degree in Middle Grades Education from UNCW and later completed my Master’s in the Art of Teaching Biology at Miami University (Ohio). The Global Field Program at Miami University allowed for travel abroad during summer months to conduct studies regarding science education while focusing on community-based and inquiry-based learning. My career goal is to serve as an educational leader through STEM and inquiry-based teaching while also increasing awareness for local and global environmental issues.
I have always been passionate about learning, which has blossomed into a passion for teaching. As a science educator, I provide students with engaged learning experiences. It is my belief that students retain more knowledge through inquiry-based or discovery learning. In my classroom, students are provided with opportunities to lead, create, and explore topics with their peers. I intend to communicate a sense of leadership in education towards students at levels of higher education and to, hopefully, instil the value of becoming a life-long learner.
