My name is Danielle Ficken and I am the school counselor at North Duplin Elementary School. The school counseling program helps all students achieve success. The purpose of our school counseling program is to impact specific skills and learning opportunities in a proactive, preventative manner, ensuring all students can achieve school success through academic, career and personal/social development experiences.
Academic development includes acquiring attitudes, knowledge, and skills that contribute to effective learning in school and across the life span, employing strategies to achieve success in school and understanding the relationship of academics to the world of work and to life at home and in the community. Career development includes the employment of strategies to achieve future career success and job satisfaction as well as fostering understanding of the relationship between personal qualities, education, and training and the world of work. Personal/social development includes the acquisition of skills, attitudes, and knowledge that helps students understand and respect self and others, acquire effective interpersonal skills, understand safety, survival skills and develop into contributing members of our society.
