A little bit about myself...I graduated from East Carolina University in December 2000 with a degree in Elementary Education.  I began my teaching career at Brogden Primary in Dudley, NC in January 2001.  After teaching for two years, I decided to return to East Carolina to pursue a master’s degree in Reading.  I taught and went to school full time for two years and graduated again in May 2005.  After teaching at Brogden Primary for 5 ½ years I decided to move to North Duplin Elementary so that I could teach closer to home.  This is my thirteenth year at North Duplin. This is my eighth year as an ESL teacher.  I love my job and feel that this position affords me many wonderful opportunities to work "shoulder-to-shoulder" with some outstanding teachers as well as assist numerous students with their various learning needs.

I am married to John Anderson of Mt. Olive, North Carolina.  We have a handsome son named Jake who is 12 years old and is in seventh grade at NDJS....wow how time flies.

    ESL Department...
Our ESL department currently serves about 187 students.  These students receive services through co-teaching, focus learning groups, and pull-out.  We plan with regular classroom teachers weekly to determine the specific needs of our students.  We make sure that we are supporting the core instruction for our EL's, as well as helping them meet their language development goals.  We attend weekly PLC meetings with our grade levels so we can analyze data and discuss best practices for improving student performance.  Our ESL staff works closely with regular ed teachers to provide our EL students with the most meaningful learning experiences possible.
