Welcome to the ELL Department!!  I am very excited to be working with English Language Learners in various grade levels. Working in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade allows me to get to know the students, work closley with all staff and build upon skills from year to year.  This will be a challenging year, but we will get through it together and with teamwork.
I would like to tell you a little about myself and my teaching career.  I began teaching ESL in 1990 at North Duplin Elementary and then went into the regular classroom setting in 1992.  From there, I have taught Kindergarten, First and Second grades and really enjoyed each and every year of teaching.  In 2013, I completed my certification to teach English Language Learners and thus, my new teaching assignment!!  Currently, I am in year 30 of teaching and dreaming of retirment!
I received an BA in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) in July 1990.  In December of 2003, I received a Masters in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), and received an additional teaching license for ESL in July 2013..  I continue to take educational courses to keep up with the latest in the field of teaching and learning.
My family is very important to me and I have been married to  Don Taylor for 28 years..  My husband and I have two children.  Our daughter Lea, graduated  from East Carolina University with a Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy and currently works as an OT therapist.  She is also a paramedic and enjoys helping others.  She is married to James and they have three cats and two dogs.  Our son Andrew is a Graduate Student  at Appalachian State University  and is majoring in Psychology.  He enjoys playing guitar and writing songs when he is not busy with school work.
To all my parents, I have an open door policy.  You are welcome in my classroom, and I am available most afternoons to meet with you to discuss your child's progress.  Please send a note , email (mtaylor@duplinschools.net), or call the school (919) 658-2931  to schedule an appointment.  I look forward to a great year!
