    Are you interested in being in the band?  Ms. Danielle Hoffer is the band teacher at the Jr/Sr High School.  You are eligible to be in the band beginning in the 6th grade.  She has included some information below for you to checout and a form at the end to let her know you are interested in the band.  You can ask direct questions about band to her at dhoffer@duplinschools.net
     
    Also she put the information in a Monday thru Friday format.  You can look at each part in any order you would like.  My son joined the band and really enjoyed it when he was in 6th grade.  My daughter joined the chorus in 11th grade and absolutely loved it as well!  Ms. Hoffer is wonderful teacher!

    We spend a little time working on dividing fractions, but not as much as I had planned.  Below is a Schoolnet for you to try if you would like to practice Dividing fractions.  Some directions:
     
    1.  Read the problem decide what is being divided (that can be tricky sometimes).  That would be the fraction that comes first.
    2.). Write the equation.
    3.). Remember that video we watched (I will attach) To divide by a fraction heres a tip- Keep, Change, Flip
    4.) Keep the first number,  change divide to multiply, Flip the second fraction (reciprocal-  1/4 would become 4/1- flip the order of numerator and denominator)
    5.). Multiply Reduce or Simplify fraction

    Another objective we did not cover much was converting units when given a conversion sheet.  I am attaching a Schoolnet for that as well.  I know that some of the Freckle Math assignments and the Khan Academy deal with converting units of measurement.   You can also google conversions. (Exam[;e how many liters are in a milliliter) or refer to your math practice book.  You are going to either multiply or divide to convert measurement.  Google for examples or go to Khan Academy- they have good YouTube on how to figure it out.

    Freckle Math--  Take the pretest in Freckle.  It takes some time and if you don't know the answers, it is s ok.  It will access where you are and give you practice. Then go into Practices with that skill.  NOTICE THE HELP BUTTONS (EXAMPLE BELOW).  You can watch a video or get an example that helps you.  You will probably need to look at these tools to help you, since there is some material I have assigned that we have not covered this year.

    I have added a video to Google classroom, and am currently trying to add videos from Khan Academy for how to add/subtract mixed numbers.  If I am unable to successfully cut and paste, you can simply look up adding/ subtracting mixed numbers on Khan Academy.  I have assigned some work for you in Khan Academy as well.  Code and instructions are above.   Earlier I suggested that you make your own accounts if you have that is fine as well.

    I think it is so important to remember these are trying times and  if your child gets stressed out, just stop and read a book together, go outside together,  or watch a funny YouTube video together.  Learning is very important, but your child's physical and mental well being is the most important thing!  
     
    Math can make parents and children disagree.  Be patient!  I always tell students there is more than one way to solve.a problem, find the way that makes sense to you.  If we are both traveling to a destination, we might go a different way, but as long as we get there that is the most important thing!
