• Ms. Hicks

Hello, my name is Ms. Hicks and I have been in education for the past 17 years.  I taught second grade for nine years and third grade for two years.   I absolutely love teaching!  Five years ago, I took on a new role;  I became the curriculum specialist for our school.  Our title was recently changed to STEAMA Curriculum Facilitator to align with our district's STEAMA iniative.  I enjoy being able to work closely with other teachers.  I graduated from NC Central University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Child Development.  Upon completion, I decided to work on my Masters in Elementary Education.  I graduated with my Master's Degree in 2003 from East Carolina University.  In 2007, I became a National Board Certified Teacher.

I have always wanted to be a teacher.  As the baby of a large family, I had plenty of nieces and nephews. During the summer, they often became my pupils.  We played "school" as often as possible.  It was my lifelong dream to become a teacher and in August 2003 that dream became a reality.

In my spare time, I love to travel and spend time with my family and friends.  In 2008, I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy.  He is by far the love of my life.  Motherhood has changed my life and I'm enjoying every minute of it.

My hobbies include reading, listening to music, and taking pictures.  I have a large collection of elephants. And I am self-declared chocoholic!
