East Duplin High School DCEF Scholarships

The Pam Edwards Scholarship will be awarded to a female student from East Duplin High School who is an honor athlete.  The student will be able to attend any institution of higher education to pursue her career goal.  This scholarship is to help ensure that a student who has excelled academically and athletically and who plans to attend college is provided recognition for her achievements. 

The scholarship will be one time only for a value of $500.  Once a student has been selected for the scholarship, the student will receive a Scholarship Verification Form that must be returned to the Duplin County Education Foundation AND the college.  Upon receipt of notification of enrollment by the college or university, the payment will be made directly to the college or university.

Requirements:  

• Completed DCEF Scholarship Application
• Include a copy of high school transcript
• Must be a female honor athlete
• Must have a combined Math and Verbal SAT score of 950 Or an ACT score of 20
• Must have a GPA of 3.63 or higher
• Two letters of recommendation
  • One letter should be from a high school teacher who taught the student
  • One letter should be from an individual who is not connected to the school
• Supplemental Questions
  • Provide a document that includes:
    • List by year, the sports you have participated in and honors or awards you have received for sports participation
    • Answer the question:  "What have you gained from participation in athletics that has better prepared you for your future academic plans?
    • Answer to the question:  "Discuss briefly what role integrity plays in high school athletics?"

• Preference will be given to applicants who are prospective teachers. 

Selection Procedures:

The Pam Edwards family or designees will review the applications and determine the scholarship recipient.  

The Rachael Darden Smith Hatch Scholarship, in honor of a former Duplin County School teacher at B. F. Grady Elementary, will be awarded to students graduating from East Duplin High School who have attended B.F Grady Elementary School.  Students will be able to attend any institution of higher education to pursue their career goal.  This scholarship is to help ensure that a student who has excelled and who plans to attend college is provided recognition for their achievements.  

The scholarship, awarded to two graduating seniors from East Duplin, will be for a value of $500 each.  Once a student has been selected for the scholarship, the student will receive a Scholarship Verification Form that must be returned to the Duplin County Education Foundation AND the college.  Upon receipt of notification of enrollment by the college or university, the payment will be made directly to the college or university.

• Must have attended BF Grady Elementary School
• Must be a graduating senior at East Duplin High School

The Rachael Hatch family or designees will review the applications and determine the scholarship recipient.  

The Betty Smith Turner Memorial Teacher Scholarship will be awarded annually to a senior at East Duplin High School.  The student must have attended East Duplin High School for four years.  The student must be well-rounded with a B average or higher, pursuing a degree in education to become a teacher.  The student must not receive total aid or a full scholarship from another source.  The student will be able to attend any institution of higher education to pursue their career goal.  The scholarship will be one time only for a value of $500.  Once a student has been selected for the scholarship, the student will receive a Scholarship Verification Form that must be returned to the Duplin County Education Foundation AND the college.  Upon receipt of notification of enrollment by the college or university, the payment will be made directly to the college or university.  

Requirements: 

• Completed DCEF Scholarship Application
• Must have attended EDHS for 4 years
• Must have a B average or higher
• Must be planning to pursue a degree in education to become a teacher
• Must not receive full financial aid or a full scholarship from another source
