KENANSVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA- March 13, 2017- Duplin County farmers Mr. and Mrs. Craig King, Jr. have won the opportunity to direct a $2,500 dollar donation from the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, to Wallace Elementary School.

Wallace Elementary School will use the funds to purchase virtual reality goggles with associated farming and science software, interactive reproducible science notebooks, science kits, and leveled books associated with various aspects of farming.

Wallace Elementary School’s Principal Gary Brown says, “Thank you to the King Family on behalf of the staff and students for their time and commitment to the students’ education at Wallace Elementary. I want to express my sincerest gratitude to the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program, and the Monsanto Fund for their selection. It’s an honor and our kids will grow as a result of your benevolence.”

The Grow Communities program’s purpose is to make a positive impact in farm communities by partnering with farmers to support the causes that are important to them in their communities. Each year, farmers enter a chance to win $2,500 donated that they direct to a local nonprofit.

Since the program began in 2010, farmers have directed more than $26 million in donations to over 8,000 community organizations that reflect the makeup and character of rural America, including food banks, emergency response organizations, schools, youth agriculture programs and many others.

Duplin County Schools Superintendent Dr. Austin Obasohan said, “Our Board of Education and I want to thank the King Farm and the Monsanto Company for their generous donation to Wallace Elementary School. The resources purchased with this funding will provide students with additional hands-on learning tools that will help further their understanding of farming, its importance to our community and its relevance to our curriculum.”
