KENANSVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA – December 15, 2017 – Farm Bureau representative Dexter Edwards presented Ag in the Classroom grants to nine Duplin County School’s teachers during the Board of Education last night. The grant program funds projects that teach students about the importance of agriculture and the wide array of agricultural job opportunities.
The recipients each took a few moments to share with the Board and those present how they will use the funds for a variety of projects purposefully designed to enhance classroom instruction. The recipients are Tonya Novakowski (RHM), Casey Knowles (DECHS), Britani Becher (CES), Lynn Marshburn (NDJS), Paige Mings (JKHS), Stephene Barwick (KES), Robyn Sutton (KES), Robin Mewborn (KES), and Regina Kilpatrick (KES).
Edwards addressed the Board before he presented the awards and said, “I want to give you a special thanks for what you do in the county and how you educate and develop future leaders of the county.”
He also explained to everyone present that Farm Bureau had only given 25 awards across the state and Duplin County Schools had received nine of those. “Congratulations to all of you. Congratulations to the Board, and the school system for selecting and hiring such qualified teachers that are willing to sacrifice their time.”
Superintendent Dr. Austin Obasohan shared later how much the program means to Duplin County Schools. “On behalf of the Board of Education, I want to thank Mr. Edwards and Farm Bureau for their continuous support. Opportunities such as this grant program and many others continuously help build our students’ understanding of our county and how agriculture and its positive affects around the world. I also congratulate each of these teachers and commend them for their hard work in this and all areas they touch as they teach.”
