Teachers Honored for Helping Students Attain High Academic Growth
KENANSVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA- April 11, 2018- The Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Austin Obasohan congratulated 61 teachers from across the county before last night’s Board of Education meeting held at Warsaw Elementary School. The teachers’ classes demonstrated outstanding academic growth last spring as measured by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI).
NCDPI measured elementary and middle grades teachers whose third through eighth grade students ranked in the top 25 percent for student academic growth on end-of-grade (EOG) testing last spring. Also ranked were high school teachers whose Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Advanced Placement (AP) instruction assisted students in earning industry credentials and AP credits.
Superintendent Dr. Austin Obasohan expressed his gratitude to the teachers for their professionalism and dedication to their students, noting that their leadership in the classroom and among their peers is valued. He also thanked Executive Director of Human Resources Daren Tyndall and Director of Recruitment and Teacher Support Services Sylvia Draughn for organizing the event.

These teachers and all whose classes showed growth in the top 25 percent in the state, in the school district, or both received bonuses. According to NCDPI, about 6,900 teachers qualified for the bonuses.
