Duplin County Schools Family Honors Board of Education
KENANSVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA – January 11, 2019 – The Duplin County Board of Education was honored this week as part of School Board Appreciation Month, which is sponsored annually by the North Carolina School Board Association. Christy Johnson, who represents the Teacher Advisory Committee made remarks during the special recognition portion of the Board of Education’s meeting.
“On behalf of the students, the staff and the entire Duplin County Schools family, we salute you, our Board of Education, for your unwavering dedication, unlimited sacrifices, and the impeccable leadership that is vital to the success of Duplin County Schools. Your exceptional direction, leadership, and service to our community is essential to the continued success of this district. Even though each day we appreciate you, tonight we honor you,” said Mrs. Johnson. The Board of Education was presented with a token of appreciation; however, a ‘special’ gift was presented to them as well. Mrs. Johnson continued, “tonight we have a book that is filled with quotes of gratitude for you by your Duplin County Schools family. I’d like to take a few minutes to share some of the quotes from our students, staff, parents, and community members across the district expressing gratitude for what you do each and every day.”
“Because of decisions you make, our students are able to dream, learn and become more than they ever thought possible. Thank you for having the heart for service so our future generations can see possibilities that are endless.“
“Moving to Duplin County four years ago was one of the most transformative and impactful decisions I have ever made. Being a teacher and now administrator in Duplin County Schools has fundamentally changed my life for the better and I owe so much of that to your leadership. You put students first, lead with compassion and humility, and build the capacity of our school system to ensure we provide precisely what our students need. On behalf of Warsaw Elementary, our students and our families, we thank you. We appreciate each of you and the selfless work you do for all of us!”
“On behalf of North Duplin Elementary School, I would like to take the opportunity to commemorate the gift of service you each share although we realize your many contributions reflect a year round commitment. Thank you for devoting your time by generously giving of yourselves to ensure that decisions directly affecting our schools are made by representatives who are close to our schools, know our teachers, parents, students, and zealously placing the children of Duplin County Schools first. In these challenging times, as a board, you face difficult choices and shoulder critical responsibilities while few people fully understand the scope and far-reaching implications of your decisions. You truly make a difference everyday and when faced with adversity, each of you, together, rise to the occasion triumphantly.”
“As a student, I love Duplin County Schools so much. You always help the staff and students when we are in need. To me, I think this is the BEST county to attend school. Keep up the good work!”
“I appreciate everything you do for me. Thank you for making our education system better, but thank you for giving me another chance at school.”
Mrs. Johnson ended the presentation saying “this book will show you the amazing impact you make on approx 10,000 students and 1,300 staff members every day across this county. The outpouring of love and appreciation and support is truly shown within this book. We hope you will cherish it for many years to come and on behalf of Duplin County Schools, thank you for your service.”
Board member Pam Edwards responded “I just want to thank everyone for recognizing us but we know the hard work is with all of you out there. We appreciate what you do everyday and we appreciate you supporting us and letting us know what is going on and being there for the students of Duplin County Schools.” Board Chairman Brent Davis echoed Mrs. Edwards’ response saying, “On behalf of the entire board, we do appreciate this. Thank you!”
Superintendent Austin Obasohan thanked the Board of Education members later during his Superintendent’s Report saying “again, I want to say congratulations and happy school board appreciation month. We appreciate all you do and the sacrifices you make.”
