Duplin Rotary Honors Students of the Month
KENANSVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA – February 14, 2019- Duplin Rotary recognized Duplin County Schools students as Students of the Month for February at last week’s meeting. Zamir Johnson, Marlena Price, and Kendy Rangel along with guests and Rotary members enjoyed a luncheon at the Country Squire Restaurant in Warsaw before each student shared with the club his or her accomplishments and plans for the future.
Zamir Johnson is the Rotary Student of the Month for James Kenan High School. He is involved in his church’s choir and enjoys Drama. Zamir is very passionate about the world of Art and plans to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and major in Graphic Design. The most influential person in his life is his aunt. She is always nice and kind to everyone. Zamir’s favorite teacher growing up is Kenansville Elementary School teacher, Ms. Fiedler. She was always helpful to him and made learning fun. Zamir enjoys being a part of James Kenan High School. He says the teachers are always there to help you. In ten years from now, Zamir hopes to be happy and successful in a career of his choice. Zamir is the son of Chandra Johnson.
Rotary Student of the Month for East Duplin High School is Marlena Price. She is involved in the Health Sciences Academy and plans to attend East Carolina University to major in Nursing. Mrs. Amanda Jenkins is her favorite teacher at East Duplin and is a lot of the reason she is pursuing a Nursing career. Marlena is also a Junior Firefighter with the Pleasant Grove Volunteer Fire Department. One of the most influential people in Marlena’s life is her cousin Mandy. Mandy has taught her you can do anything if you are willing to work hard and build your way up. In ten years, she hopes to be back home living in Duplin County with a career in Nursing. Marlena is the daughter of Polly Blizzard and Robbie and Bridgett Price.
Kendy Rangel is North Duplin Jr./Sr. High School’s Rotary Student of the Month. Kendy is involved in many clubs, including the Beta Club and FCA. She also plays many sports including Cross Country and Soccer. Kendy hopes to attend either Pensacola Christian College or Barton College to major in Nursing. She has always enjoyed being a part of North Duplin Jr./Sr. High School because of the small, helpful, and positive learning environment including her favorite teacher, Mr. Anderson’s, life lessons. Kendy is very diligent in her school work and takes pride in completing her tasks to the best of her ability. The most influential person in her life has been a friend from church, who has taught her that it is possible to overcome struggles with hard work and dedication. In ten years, Kendy hopes to be in North Carolina with a career in Nursing and possibly coaching a club soccer team. Kendy is the daughter of Jose Rangel and Cristina Molina.
Rotary President Jesse Dowe stated “these students are our future. We need to do everything we can do to support these students to take the appropriate steps to achieve their goals.”
