DCS Holds Strategic Plan Annual Review
KENANSVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA- May 16, 2019- Duplin County Schools held its Strategic Plan Annual Review this week at Kenansville Elementary School. The event provides all stakeholders with the opportunity to review the school system’s strategic plan, share accomplishments, and suggest next steps.
Kenansville Elementary School Principal Debra Hunter welcomed everyone and Dr. Rev. Anthony Connors shared the invocation. Duplin County Board of Education Chairman Brent Davis brought greetings and appreciation on behalf of the Board, thanking everyone for their service to the county, the school system, and the students.
The 5-Year Strategic Plan (2016-2021), aligned with the NC State Board of Education’s Strategic Plan, contains five strategic goals, which serve as a roadmap that guides Duplin County Schools. The five goals are:
- Student academic success for every Pre-K – 13 student is a priority for Duplin County Schools.
- Through a commitment to equity, all students will receive a personalized education through access to STEAMA, career, college, and digital learning.
- Every student will be instructed and supported by excellent and innovative leaders, teachers, and personnel.
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships supported by 21st Century financial, business, and technology systems.
- Provide safe and nurturing facilities for all Pre-K – 13 students and staff.
Accomplishments shared by attendees will be used to comprise the school system’s Annual Report to the Community. Superintendent Dr. Austin Obasohan will analyze suggested next steps and make recommendations to the Board to guide future work.
Superintendent Obasohan led the question and answer session. “Thank you to everyone for your hard work and thank you to our community members and parents for being here and for the support you give to Duplin County Schools. A special thank you to our Board of Education for the direction and continued support they give to our school system,” said Superintendent Dr. Austin Obasohan. Additionally, Dr. Obasohan introduced Zackary Bryant and Jacob Coman, members of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Committee, and invited them to share their thoughts. Both students thanked everyone, especially former teachers and administrators for all they have done.
In closing, Chairman Davis gave additional remarks. He noted the Board’s commitment to trying to protect employees while at the same time meeting continuous budget constraints. “On behalf of the Board of Education, we are appreciative of everyone’s hard work. We have continued to see an increase in our growth despite five consecutive budget cuts. I want to let you know how hard our Finance department and our Administration have worked to make this happen. This is a true testament to all employees in this county. It truly is phenomenal.”
