DCS 2019 Leadership Retreat

Members of the Duplin County Schools' administration recently gathered at East Carolina University for the annual Leadership Retreat. This amazing day designed to "kick off" the upcoming school year was filled with fun, fellowship and reconnection among the leaders of the district.

Pastor Paul Dean, chair of the faith-based advisory group gave the blessings for the morning and the upcoming school year.

Board Chairman, Brent Davis brought greetings from the Board of Education and shared words of inspiration. Mr. Davis shared that the board will continue to do everything within their power to work hard and support the students and staff of Duplin County Schools.

The day continued with work sessions designed to build leadership connections across the district and strengthen understanding of equity and how it impacts education. Sessions were led by Dr. Kathy Spencer and Dr. Gail Davis.

The final session on Vitality and Teacher Burnout, was led by Dr. Hal Hollamon and proved to be instrumental in understanding how to be organizationally healthy so that we can be the best that we can be for the staff and students of Duplin County Schools.

Followng lunch, the leadership staff developed district goals for the 2019-2020 school year. STEAMA Celebration and Collaboration filled the room as teams participated in the STEAMA Innovative Challenge.

Dr. Obasohan provided closing remarks by thanking the wonderful presenters, the Planning Committee and everyone in attendance. He stressed the power of education and how it stretches across all boundaries.  He concluded by encouraging everyone to continue to work together to help students realize their dreams.

To wrap up this wonderful day of learning and connection and in keeping with the day's theme, the group stopped off in Kinston to see the Down East Wooducks take on the Carolina Mudcats. This in-state rivalry proved to be exciting as the woodducks beat the mudcats 3-2.

This was truly a day of inspiration and connection that has set the tone for the upcoming school year.
