Recently, the Duplin County Schools Exceptional Children’s Department recognized staff members for their outstanding achievements in and out of the classroom. Regina McDaniel, teacher at JKHS received the Teacher of Excellence award and Mr. Terrell Stevens, teacher at EDHS received the Teacher Assistant of Excellence award.

According to Mr. Cary Powers, Assistant Superintendent for Federal Programs, Students Support Services, Exceptional Children's Program and Athletics, shared, “Ms. McDaniel goes above and beyond in service at JKHS to her students and school. When students are experiencing academic or social-emotional difficulty, she counsels with the students trying to determine what the issues are and works to find solutions. Ms. McDaniel works collaboratively with general education teachers to help students address academic difficulties so they can experience success in the classroom.  She is proactive, advocates for her students and is a leader in her department and school. She goes above and beyond in helping her teammates in meeting deadlines, timelines and procedures. She is an asset to DCS.”

Mr. Powers also shared, “Terrell Stevens was recognized as Teacher Assistant of Excellence. He is a dedicated educator and works diligently as a job coach at EDHS supporting students in the Occupation Course of Study as they learn skills to become successful in the workforce.  He works hard to connect with students and encourage them on the right path.  He keeps great records which are necessary for our OCS students.  He has established a strong partnership with JCI, which is a regional, entrepreneurial, nonprofit corporation dedicated to empowering people with disabilities or disadvantages to succeed through training and employment. He is such an asset to DCS.

Congratulations to Ms. McDaniel and Mr. Stevens on your outstanding achievement!
