Kyndall Marshburn Nominated as NCCAT
Beginning Teacher of the Year for DCS
The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) will soon present the 2020-21 NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year Award (BTOY). The award was developed to honor beginning teachers and retain potentially excellent teachers in North Carolina public schools. Not only does this process showcase the amazing beginning teachers across the state, it recognizes and rewards the excellent teaching happening every day in North Carolina classrooms. Beginning Teachers are nominated by their respective districts and then move on to the regional process where the 2020-21 Beginning Teacher of the Year will be chosen.
Duplin County Schools is proud to recognize Mrs. Kyndall Marshburn, Exceptional Children’s Teacher at Rose Hill-Magnolia Elementary School for being nominated for the NCCAT BTOY Award. Ms. Marshburn was required to complete portfolio requirements including: completed BTOY application; three letters of reference (student or parent of student, peer, other); written reflection on the first year of teaching and why you returned to the job; and a statement from the school principal.
Following a surprise visit from the DCS Beginning Teacher Department and the Rose Hill-Magnolia administration team, Ms. Marshburn was presented with balloons and a gift for her recognition. She shared, “I am so excited to have been selected as the 2020 Beginning Teacher of the Year for Duplin County Schools. I feel so fortunate to have been selected, as there are so many brilliant and deserving beginning teachers in Duplin County. It is an honor to represent Duplin County Schools, as DCS played such an integral role in making me the student I was, the person I am, and the teacher I am becoming.”
Ms. Anna Henderson, Exceptional Children’s Teacher at Rose Hill-Magnolia Elementary School shared, “Mrs. Kyndall is a blessing to our school and her students. She takes great pride in what she does and gives 110% to her students all day, everyday. She is also a very supportive coworker. She has taught me many things this year. You would never guess she was a beginning teacher. I am proud to work with Ms. Kyndall and so thankful to have her a part of our Eagle family.”
In response to Ms. Marshburn’s recent recognition, her principal, Ms. Robbin Copper shared, “Love is patient, Love is kind... this is what comes to mind when I think of Mrs. Marshburn. She is a loving, dedicated teacher who truly has a heart for service and students. She has built lasting relationships with her students and families that go beyond the walls of Rose Hill-Magnolia.
