School Board Members Honored During Board Meeting

Kenansville, North Carolina – January 5, 2021 - Members of the Duplin County Board of Education were honored at Tuesday Night’s Board Meeting, as part of School Board Appreciation Month.

Superintendent, Dr. Austin Obasohan began the evening by sharing that January is set aside by the N.C. School Board Association to honor the work of school board members across the state. He went on to say, “Today we would like to celebrate each of you for your dedication to our students. Your role as board members is very, very demanding and I appreciate all that you do for our school community.”

Afterwards, board members were honored with a video presentation put together by some of Duplin County Schools very own family members. The messages were shared by a student and the District Persons of the Year representing, beginning teachers, support staff, teachers, assistant principals and principals.

Following the video presentation Board Chairman, Mr. Brent Davis shared, “I’m sure I speak for everyone here when I say that we appreciate the support but we truly appreciate all that you do. Even through the toughest situation that any of you have probably been through, we are making it work and it all has to do with work done by all the staff across the county, and we greatly appreciate it.”

Vice Chairman Mr. Reginald Kenan also shared words of appreciation for the applause and the video. He shared, “ It’s human nature that sometimes you want to hear a thank you, even though you don’t do it for that reason. But it does help you continue on your journey and give you that little push. What you have done tonight, gives us that little push to continue.”

Board member Mr. Claudius Morrisey, thanked the group and shared that he appreciated them for thinking of him. Mr. David Jones followed with comments of appreciation to everyone and said, “We appreciate all that you do and we couldn’t do it without you guys.”

To conclude the board comments, Mrs. Pam Edwards said, “You know where my heart is and that is with the students and you. We appreciate all that you do everyday. I know the challenges are feeling greater and as we continue to make progress, there are still things to work on. I have no doubt that you are always with us and I thank you for that.”
