During Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting, Elijah Bostic, senior at James Kenan High School, was recognized as a North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Nominee for the 2023 Presidential Scholars Program. Elijah is the second student in two years from Duplin County Schools chosen to move to the national round of the US Presidential Scholars Program.

This program, established in 1964, has honored over 8,000 high school seniors and works to recognize and honor outstanding seniors and encourage high attainment among all students. If chosen as a national finalist in May, Elijah would receive the Presidential Scholars Medallion at a ceremony in Washington, DC.

Nicole Murray, Chief Officer for STEAMA Curriculum and Instruction/Professional Development, presented Elijah with a recognition certificate and shared, “Elijah represents the best of North Carolina’s students based on outstanding scholarship qualities.  We are proud of your hard work and dedication and wish you the best of luck as you move on to the national level of competition.”

Congratulations on this outstanding achievement!
