On Tuesday, May 2, the Superintendent's Student Advisory Committee (SAC) gathered at the O.P. Johnson Board of Education Building for its final meeting of the year. Students representing each school across the district enjoyed lunch and had a chance to fellowship and celebrate together. Student leaders also had a chance to reflect on their service and had these words to share.

Bushra Elgeef, SAC President said, “Being elected as president has empowered me to help be a voice for not only my school, but for my district. Serving on this committee has opened up new leadership opportunities for me.”

Brayden Bostic, SAC Secretary shared, “Being on the SAC has helped me realize that school is not just a building. It’s a group of people working together to make our schools a better place. Being secretary has helped me to become a better leader in my school.”

Weston Smith, SAC High School Representative, said, “I am thankful for the opportunity to serve on this committee. Being a part of the SAC has allowed me to think beyond my school walls and connect with other school leaders as a unified district.”

During the meeting, Dr. Obasohan shared words of appreciation to the students, thanked them  for their leadership to the committee, and encouraged them to finish the school year strong. He shared, “I am so thankful for the opportunity to work with you and I am so proud of each of you. Don’t let anything get in your way because you are born to be successful. Nothing can stop you, just believe that.” Dr. Obasohan also shared well wishes for the senior members going off to college and thanked them for their leadership and for making Duplin proud. Following his remarks, students were presented with certificates of participation for the 2022-2023 school year.
