“Duplin Grows” Gives Students Hands-on Agriculture Experience

Kenansville, North Carolina - March 28, 2024- Recently, 2nd grade students across the district had an up close and personal experience with all-things agriculture. Duplin Grows, an event held annually, always proves to be an engaging learning experience for everyone involved. Students rotate through various stations to explore topics such as bee pollination, soil exploration, animal care, and seed germination. In addition, 2nd graders play “Duplin Grows” Bingo to showcase their knowledge of healthy vs. unhealthy foods, while also getting a chance to see larger than life farm equipment displays.  Local business leaders continue to do an amazing job each year as they capture the attention of the students by engaging them in one of a kind presentations. Students are able to see real bee hives, conduct soil exploration with worms, see the life cycle of a chicken, experience a working cotton gin, plant seeds, explore healthy foods and so much more. It is truly a day filled with excitement and learning that students will never forget.

“Our business and industry partners have been a tremendous support to our Duplin Grows event for many years. This event continues to bring a high level of excitement and engagement for our students and staff as they are immersed in this one of a kind agricultural experience. Through STEAMA and events like Duplin Grows, our students will continue to be exposed to the many career pathway options that may lie ahead for them in their future,” stated Superintendent Austin Obasohan.
