DCS Celebrates All "Teachers"
DCS CELEBRATES ALL “TEACHERS”
By Dr. Austin Obasohan
This week is “Teacher Appreciation Week” and Duplin County Schools thanks every “teacher” who is making a difference in the lives of our precious children during these trying times. COVID-19 has thrust our school community into distance learning. Our students moved from traditional classrooms to virtual classrooms in the blink of an eye. Our academic “teacher” pool has grown exponentially to now include parents, siblings, pastors, grandparents, business partners, community members, etc. While our dedicated educators work to reach all children and deliver instruction remotely, family members and friends are stepping up to the plate to bridge any gaps. This is a new experience for many of us, yet our school community has risen to the challenge again!
While our “teachers” are developing creative projects and strategies to teach virtual STEAMA-driven lessons, this week they also found a creative way to safely celebrate our graduating seniors. Our “teachers” (i.e. principals, teachers, support staff, pastors, business partners, community members, etc.) united together to pay special tribute to every student as they picked up their graduation caps and gowns. This was a phenomenal community effort and an expression of the love, pride and appreciation we have for the graduating Class of 2020.
On behalf of the Board of Education, I thank every “teacher” who is working to keep our students engaged in learning while they are away from our school buildings. We are truly grateful to you. Your commitment to our youth is preparing them, not only for their graduation from high school, but what comes next as well. It takes a community to teach a child. We can’t do this without you!
Thank you for your resilience and for truly making a difference. Please continue to stay strong and safe.
Your humble servant,
Austin Obasohan
