DCS Micro-Credentials
Micro-Credentials are a digital form of certification indicating that an educator has demonstrated competency in a specific area/skill. Upon successful completion of each micro-credential, educators will earn a digital badge, as well as CEU credit.
Micro-credentials allow educators to personalize their professional development by completing flexible, self-directed online learning opportunities by demonstrating mastery while focusing on student learning. Educators will determine which micro-credentials to pursue based on their individual learning need(s).
Each micro-credential is self-directed, competency-based, job-embedded, and researched-based. This allows educators the flexibility to determine when and how they will complete their professional development.
To earn a micro-credential, educators must apply their learning in their practice, collect evidence, and demonstrate their competence. Educators can determine how much support they need and when they are ready to submit evidence of mastery.
Below you will find a list of our available pathways and online micro-credential professional development opportunities.
Each individual micro-credential can be part of a pathway or it can stand alone. Pathways can be vertical, completed in a certain order, or a collection, completed in any order.
All micro-credentials will be delivered through the district learning management system, Canvas. Canvas can be accessed via NCEdCloud. Upon successful completion of a micro-credential, a digital badge will be issued to the participant, as well as CEU credit. Participants can view their digital badges via their Canvas account and their CEU credit via Professional Growth.
