With research-based accreditation standards, it evaluates schools on leadership, learning, and resources. Cognia has accredited over 36,000 institutions in 100 countries, impacting around 25 million students worldwide.
Additionally, Duplin County Schools has received Cognia’s Circle of Excellence Award for 2024, recognizing its leadership, innovation, and commitment to student success through the STEAMA model.
Launched in 2018, STEAMA integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Agriculture, ensuring students graduate prepared for the workforce. With strong support from educators, community partners, and businesses, the district has built a learning model that fosters student engagement and career readiness.
"This recognition is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and collaboration of our educators, students, and community partners. Through their commitment, we have built a strong STEAMA foundation that prepares our students for success. We are honored to be the first district in North Carolina to achieve this milestone and remain dedicated to excellence in education," commented Dr. Austin Obasohan.
Mr. Kevin Smith, Assistant Superintendent for Educational Innovation and Accountability, Mrs. Nicole Murray, Chief Officer for STEAMA Curriculum and Instruction/Professional Development, and Mrs. Lindsay Skidmore, Director of 6-8 Curriculum/Digital Innovation, shared a presentation during the Tuesday night board meeting. The presentation provided an overview of the STEAMA model and highlighted the impact of STEAMA on student learning. Additionally, the presenters shared these accomplishments at the Cognia IMPACT Conference, reflecting the collective effort and commitment of Duplin County Schools to STEAMA education. Board Chairman, Mr. Brent Davis, thanked everyone for their hard work and Dr. Obasohan for the vision and for spearheading this to make it a priority. Board members expressed their appreciation to administrators, teachers, staff, families, the community, and industry/business partners for their dedication to STEAMA. They acknowledged the hard work involved in keeping students engaged, fostering their interests, and motivating them toward success.
Congratulations to the entire DCS family for this outstanding recognition!
