Kenansville, NC - March 6, 2025 - Duplin County Schools recently held its annual Exceptional Children’s Celebration, an inspiring evening dedicated to recognizing the remarkable achievements of students and the educators who support them. The event honored students for their accomplishments while also celebrating the dedication of exceptional educators through the Carol Dice Humanitarian Award, the Teacher Assistant of Excellence Award, and the Teacher of Excellence Award.

The Carol Dice Humanitarian Award was presented in honor of Dr. Carol Dice, a dedicated educator whose compassion and commitment to students with disabilities left a lasting impact on Duplin County Schools. This award recognizes an individual who embodies selflessness, leadership, and a passion for supporting students, families, and colleagues. This year’s recipient, April Raynor, SDI Curriculum Specialist, is known for going above and beyond to support students, colleagues, and families, demonstrating unwavering dedication, humility, and leadership. Her commitment to ensuring all students feel valued and supported has made a lasting impact on the school community.

The Teacher Assistant of Excellence Award highlighted the invaluable contributions of instructional assistants who create inclusive learning environments and play a critical role in student success. These individuals go above and beyond, ensuring students receive the guidance and encouragement they need. This year’s recipient, Amy Padrick, Beulaville Elementary, is recognized for her flexibility, patience, and dedication to student growth. She is a dependable team member, always willing to support students and teachers alike, and her positive attitude fosters an encouraging learning environment.

The Teacher of Excellence Award celebrates an exceptional educator who consistently empowers and advocates for students with disabilities, fostering academic and personal growth. Their dedication to preparing students for future success is a testament to their unwavering belief in their potential. This year’s recipient, Matthew Blust, Rose Hill-Magnolia Elementary, is described as a passionate advocate for students, dedicated to fostering academic and functional growth. He works tirelessly both inside and outside the classroom to support students, colleagues, and families, always striving to create opportunities for student success.

Director of Exceptional Children, Susan Smith, expressed gratitude for the evening’s honorees, stating, "Tonight is a celebration of perseverance, dedication, and the belief that every student can succeed. The educators and students we recognize exemplify hard work, resilience, and a commitment to excellence. Through hands-on learning and individualized support, these students have achieved incredible milestones, and the educators standing beside them have been instrumental in their success. Their passion and dedication make a lasting impact, ensuring that all students have the tools and opportunities to thrive."
