Regional Science Fair 2025

Kenansville, NC - Duplin County Schools proudly celebrated the achievements of its students at the Southeast Regional Science and Engineering Fair, held at the University of North Carolina Wilmington on Saturday, February 22, 2025. All participating students earned awards for their outstanding projects, showcasing their dedication to scientific inquiry and innovation.

Five of the nine projects presented will advance to the state-level competition in March, marking a significant accomplishment for these young scientists.

Chief Officer for STEAMA Curriculum & Instruction/PD, Mrs. Nicole Murray praised the students' success, emphasizing the district’s commitment to hands-on STEAMA instruction. "Our students' achievements reflect the power of hands-on, inquiry-based learning through STEAMA. By engaging in real-world problem-solving and innovative thinking, they are building skills that will support their future academic and career success."

Sadie Edwards (CES) - Special Environmental Science Honorable Mention - Sadie will be invited to spend a day with environmental scientists on the UNCW campus to learn more about their work and explore her project further.

Lina Kimes (NDE) - Outstanding Creativity Award

Anna Marie Cox (NDE) - Exemplary Elementary Project Award, advancing to state-level fair

Stryker Hatch and Harper Kennedy (BFG) - Outstanding Creativity Award, Junior Technology Category Exemplary Project Award, advancing to state-level fair

Natalie Mutter and Madison Thornton (NDE) - 2nd Place  in Junior Biology A Category, advancing to state-level fair

Santiago Kimes (NDJS) - Exemplary Award in Junior Biology B Category, advancing to state-level fair

Madeline Kimes (NDJS) - 3rd Place Senior Biology A Category, Special Environmental Science Award, Outstanding Creativity Award.- Madeline will be invited to spend a day with environmental scientists on the UNCW campus to learn more about their work and explore her project further.

Dustin Harrell and McKenzie Pate (DECHS) - Honorable Mention Senior Biology A Category, Outstanding Creativity Award

John Guillen Mendoza (DECHS) - 3rd place Senior Engineering Category, Outstanding Creativity Award, New Hanover County Farm Bureau Excellence in Science and Engineering Award, advancing to state-level fair
