Kenansville, North Carolina - During the June Board of Education meeting, Mrs. Erica Edwards, representing Farm Bureau, recognized outstanding Duplin County Schools teachers as recipients of the Ag in the Classroom “Going Local” grants. These grants support innovative classroom projects that integrate agriculture into education, helping students connect classroom learning to the world around them.
Five teachers were awarded grants for their creative and impactful proposals:
- Britani Becher – Chinquapin Elementary School
- Jessica Servin Turcios – Rose Hill - Magnolia Elementary School
- Mr. Garrick Purdie – Duplin Early College High School
- Juanito Hernandez - Wallace - Rose Hill High School
Mrs Edwards commended Duplin County Schools educators for their creativity and commitment to enriching student learning through agriculture-based experiences. She expressed her appreciation for the innovative ideas submitted by this year’s recipients and praised all DCS teachers who have applied in the past, noting that the proposals are consistently well-written, thoughtful, and clearly focused on student engagement and growth.
Chairman Brent Davis expressed his gratitude for the support that the Duplin County Farm Bureau provides to Duplin County Schools, as well as recognizing the teachers for going above and beyond to provide additional resources for our classrooms.
