Buies Creek, NC - On Monday, February 26, thirty Health Sciences Academy students from all district high schools embarked on an exclusive healthcare exploration experience at Campbell University and the Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM). This immersive event provided students with a firsthand look into the world of medicine and healthcare careers.
Throughout the day, students toured Campbell’s state-of-the-art nursing simulation labs, where they observed cutting-edge medical technology in action. They explored the university campus, gaining insight into college life, and enjoyed a meal in the dining hall while learning about Campbell’s highly regarded nursing programs.
One of the most impactful moments of the day was a medical student panel, where current CUSOM students shared their journeys, challenges, and aspirations in becoming physicians. This discussion provided valuable advice and inspiration for students considering careers in healthcare.
A major highlight of the experience was a hands-on clinical simulation led by a CUSOM instructor and medical students. Under expert guidance, students practiced endotracheal intubation procedures using specialized medical equipment, gaining practical skills and a deeper appreciation for the complexities of patient care.
This extraordinary opportunity was made possible through the dedication of Monica Fanjoy of Campbell University’s Science Education Outreach and CUSOM medical student Colton Cruz. Their commitment to student learning and engagement helped create an enriching and inspiring experience for our Health Sciences Academy students as they explore their future paths in medicine and healthcare.
