Kenansville, NC - On November 25, Duplin Health Sciences Academy students in grades 9–12 stepped into the fast-paced world of emergency medical services during the Hands on Heroes EMS Career Exploration Event, hosted in partnership with James Sprunt Community College. The event was designed to give students a realistic, hands-on introduction to the skills and teamwork required in EMS careers.

Throughout the day, students rotated through five interactive stations led by JSCC’s advanced EMS students and instructors. Each station allowed participants to practice essential emergency response techniques and learn how EMS professionals stabilize and care for patients in a variety of real-world scenarios. These experiences reinforced the district’s STEAMA focus by helping students connect scientific and technical concepts with practical applications in the field.

The collaboration between Duplin HSA and JSCC also highlighted the many certifications and educational pathways available to students interested in pursuing EMS careers locally. By engaging directly with instructors and current EMS learners, students gained valuable insight into training expectations, career progression, and the critical role EMS professionals play in community safety.

Events like Hands on Heroes continue to inspire Duplin County Schools students as they explore meaningful, high-demand healthcare careers and prepare for future success.
